Southeast Asian Vegetable Oils

Southeast Asia’s palm oil sector has and continues to face numerous tariff and non-tariff impediments across mature markets, particularly in the European Union and the United States. These include technical regulations for the use of palm oil in biodiesel as well as the use of palm oil in food, and ongoing trade remedy disputes.

The EU and other European trade blocs are seeking to negotiate trade agreements with Indonesia and other palm oil exporting countries, and there is ongoing concern around the environmental impact of palm oil production.

Article Three has been engaged by Southeast Asian governments, intergovernmental bodies and the private sector to provide ongoing trade policy advice for the region’s largest agricultural export.
